Brandon Leake, a poet, educator, performer, and the 2020 winner of America’s Got Talent, has joined the Staff Concord Basis as a producing associate on its new net collection, HATE: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? A Boston-based, worldwide nonprofit group, the Staff Concord Basis works to coach, encourage, and have interaction youth all over the world within the battle towards hate and violence. Along with his position as producing associate, Leake has written a brand new spoken phrase presentation for Staff Concord that can debut throughout the October 20 version of HATE: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
Initially established in 1994 by a coalition of enterprise and neighborhood leaders, Staff Concord will kick-off its youth-driven, month-to-month collection at 7:00 pm (EST) and seven:00 pm (CET) on Tuesday, October 20, when it’ll stream reside on TeamHarmonyFoundation.org. That includes Leake and a corps of pupil reporters from across the globe, the collection is geared toward center faculty, highschool, and faculty college students.
“I’ve been so impressed by ALL THAT Staff Concord is doing and I knew I needed to be a part of this effort in an enormous manner,” stated Leake. “Collectively, we are going to arise towards hate and present the world precisely what love can appear to be. Collectively we’re way more highly effective than we ever are on our personal.”
Every 45-minute episode of HATE: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? will discover the state of hate worldwide and spotlight peaceable activism that promotes tolerance, fairness, and inclusion by way of conversations with political, civic, enterprise and schooling leaders together with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Jonathan Greenblatt, Nationwide Director and CEO, Anti-Defamation League
, and Emerson School President Lee Pelton, and tales produced by as many as 100 youth reporters from throughout the US and across the globe. Thus far, young people from more than 35 countries – together with Afghanistan, China, Cuba, Egypt, India Kenya, Morocco, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Uganda and the USA (with 15 states represented) – will assist drive programming.
Along with the net collection, Staff Concord has labored with educators to develop numerous program choices corresponding to a free, downloadable activism software package particularly designed for center and highschool lecturers and college students. Now out there, the package consists of age-appropriate actions that promote inclusion and neighborhood constructing, have fun range, encourage unity, and refute hate speech in all its varieties.
As a part of its ongoing effort to domesticate the following era of leaders, Staff Concord and Emerson School can even introduce a 10-course Digital Institute for Activism (VIA) in January, 2021, designed to offer younger individuals with the background, information, and expertise wanted to boost consciousness, interact in tough conversations, and use their voices to peacefully advocate for racial and social justice. Programs will embrace Utilizing Social Media for Social Good, the Artwork of Organizing, and Influencing the Influencer. The title of the collection HATE: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? was impressed by Emerson School President Lee Pelton whose letter to the Emerson neighborhood following the dying of George Floyd went viral, sparking necessary and well timed conversations. “On the finish of his highly effective letter, which recounted his experiences as a Black man in America, President Pelton challenged us all by asking ‘what are you going to do?’ in response to systemic racism, violence and hate speech,” stated Staff Concord board member Josh Zakim, a former Boston metropolis councilor whose late father Lenny Zakim, a revered civil rights activist, and longtime regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, was a driving power behind Staff Concord. “Everybody related to Staff Concord believes President Pelton’s letter, which has been broadly circulated with thousands and thousands of on-line views, will spark a worldwide dialog, compelling youth, right here at house and across the globe, to take motion and work to fight hate,” added Zakim.
Thus far, Staff Concord has attracted a coalition of organizations together with the Anti-Defamation League of New England, The Heart for International Communications, the Boston Bruins, the Carter Presidential Heart, The Ben Marion Institute for Social Justice – Atlanta, the Council of American Islamic Relations, Massachusetts Chapter, the Martin Richard Basis, the Massachusetts Fee of LGBT Youth, The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Affiliation, the NAACP-New England Space Convention, and Undertaking 351.
