Actor Vijay Sethupathi has opted out of the Muthiah Muralitharan biopic 800 on the request of the cricketer. In an announcement that Sethupathi shared on social media, Muralitharan requested him to not go forward with the movie as it could trigger extra hurt to the actor’s profession.
This controversy was largely as a result of Muralitharan is seen as a supporter of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was on the helm throughout nearly 30 years of civil battle that gripped the island nation. The war-affected the Malayaga Tamils, with Indian-lineage, to an incredible extent.
800 was not the one movie set in Sri Lanka that confronted controversy. At the very least two movies have been pulled out from theatres in current instances after pro-Eleam teams raised an objection. Here’s a listing of a few of the movies that confronted controversy.
