Former principal secretary to the Kerala Chief Minister, M Sivasankar, had allegedly intervened to get a diplomatic cargo launched from the Customs on the behest of Swapna Suresh, a key accused within the gold smuggling case, the ED on Thursday said in its petition looking for custody of the suspended IAS officer.
The company Wednesday arrested Sivasankar on fees of alleged cash laundering within the smuggling case.
On Thursday, the Principal Classes Courtroom in Kochi allowed the ED four-day custody of Sivasankar, who has been listed because the fifth accused within the alleged cash laundering case the agrency is probing within the gold smuggling rip-off.
In keeping with ED, Sivasankar helped Swapna park proceeds from the smuggling deal in a financial institution locker. He was suspended after the smuggling scandal was uncovered in July this 12 months.
In its affidavit to the court docket, ED stated Sivasankar had “admitted” that he spoke to a Customs official in April 2019, allegedly looking for clearance of diplomatic baggage that was to be examined by the Customs, on the behest of Swapna. “Sivasankar has denied this within the assertion, however ED is in possession of WhatsApp messages exchanged between Swapna and Sivasankar, which point out Sivasankar intervened within the clearance of diplomatic baggage…,” the affidavit said.
