Joaquin Phoenix-starrer ‘Joker’ will not be screened on satellite tv for pc channels in India.
The Movie Certificates Appellate Tribunal has upheld the Censor Board’s determination to not permit the movie to be aired on TV channels because it glorifies violence.
In its order, the FCAT stated: “We are inclined to agree that the movie glorifies violence and in ase it’s seen by non-adults, it will have lasting impact on their impressionable minds.”
The order additional stated that, “Opposite to submissions of the appellant’s (Turner Intl India Restricted) counsel that the film was meant to generate empathy, it’s seen that the film depicts the inhabitants lauding violence and the character is receiving appreciation for a similar.”
“The psychological complesities which are sought to be projected would look like tough for non-adults to understand. We’re of the view contemplating all related components, the film has been rightly licensed for ‘A’ viewining solely and is unfit for common satellite tv for pc viewing.”
Satirically, the film is already being screened in India on a OTT platform.
