NEW DELHI: Reacting to Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami’s arrest, Data and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday described it as “an assault on press freedom” in Maharashtra and stated it reminded of the “Emergency days”.
A police official stated that on Wednesday they arrested Goswami from his residence in Mumbai for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old inside designer. Javadekar tweeted, “We condemn the assault on press freedom in Maharashtra. This isn’t the way in which to deal with the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was handled like this.”
We condemn the #Congress, led by Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi, for its fascist and emergency mindset, which is on show in #Maharashtra @republic
