OTT platforms, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Disney Plus Hotstar amongst many others, and information web sites, will now come below the purview of the Ministry of Info and Broadcasting, as per a notification issued on Wednesday.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed his disappointment on the authorities’s order. Speaking to indianexpress.com, the director mentioned, “Whereas this choice wasn’t surprising, it’s nonetheless a cause for despair. This desperation for management of free speech and expression doesn’t augur properly. I’m at present very upset.”
